Achieving a perfect fit and making personalised changes to fit you and your vision is what we specialise in at LeannMarieDesign. Most dresses will need minor adjustments, such as hem shortening. But some will need more extensive work to make them just-right. And additional to you and your bridal gown, we can cater to the rest of your wedding party too.
Private fittings
Fittings are conducted privately and by appointment only. This especially suits nervous brides or ladies who are size and/or body conscious. Other clients do not have access to the space during an appointment.
Flexible lead times
It is recommended that alterations are conducted 6-12 weeks prior to the wedding. However, late timelines can also be scheduled for ladies who anticipate weight change or have a late dress arrival.
Group services
You may have bridesmaids and other family members who require alterations. Group bookings can be made so that everybody involved is catered for. This also includes trouser shortening services for men’s suits and also customised cravats and ties for the groomsmen.
Out of hours appointments
In recognition of the varied work schedules for different customers, fittings can be arranged for weekdays, evenings and occasional Saturday mornings.
Free fitting and estimates
After the initial free fitting, an estimate of all charges is issued in writing with no obligation. Work will only begin once you have confirmed that you are happy to proceed.
Alterations
With a wide breadth of experience, no alteration is too large or too small at LeannMarieDesign. Advice on all the options will be carefully explained to you, whether it is to improve the fit, or just the length.
Design changes / remodelling
Sometimes a dress is almost perfect….. but not quite. Design changes such as creating sleeve caps, adding straps or perhaps introducing some surface embellishment can all help you to achieve the wow factor.
Couture finishing
Our couture approach to alterations ensures a flawless finish. We strive for perfection every time, with a team who are well practised with lacework and bead embellishments.
DBS checking
Although minors will always be fitted with another adult present, for peace of mind DBS checks are conducted on any staff that are likely to interact with young people.
Vintage & Heirloom
Thinking of wearing your nans veil as your ‘something old’ or ‘something borrowed’?
At LeannMarieDesign we can spot-clean and repair items that have been locked away for decades.
Likewise, with gowns, we can refit a heirloom piece for todays bride. And, where required, remodel aspects of its design for a more contemporary look.
In cases where a gown is too degraded or stained to be worn again, the lace or the beads can be lovingly salvaged, restored and given new life as part of a veil or wedding dress.

Design Remodelling
At LeannMarieDesign we offer more than simple alterations. Gowns that don’t quite meet a bride’s vision can undergo a design remodelling process. The gown construction will be assessed to determine the best way to make your ideas a reality. Typical remodelling requests include:
- Adding/removing bones
- Adding/removing skirting and net layers
- Adding a sheer colour layer into skirtings
- Creating a detachable overskirt or train
- Adding lace, beading or applique embellishments
- Creating sleeves or straps
- Creating an alternative neckline
- Converting the rear bodice to a lace-up finish
Being able to remodel aspects of your gown can take the pressure away during the buying experience. It’s also a useful possibility for gowns that are purchased as pre-loved, off-the-peg or ex-sample.
